The 2018 season Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 11, is the eleventh season of the IPL, a Twenty20 professional cricket league founded by BCCI in 2007. The season, which runs from May 7 to 27, will see the return of the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals after two years of suspension due to the participation of their respective owners in the 2013 IPL event.

In 2018, eight teams will play. In this tournament, each team plays twice in double rounds. At the end of the Double Round Robin League, the top four teams will qualify based on the points total for the playoffs. In this phase, the top two teams (in a game called "Qualifier 1") will compete, as will the two remaining teams (in a game called "Eliminator"). While the qualifying qualifier 1 qualifies directly for the final, the losing team will have another chance to qualify for the final by playing with the winning team of the Eliminator match. This game is called Qualifier 2. The winner of this qualifier for the next qualifier 2 goes to the finals. The team that wins the final will be crowned as the Indian Premier League.
The IPL board has announced that each IPL franchise can retain a maximum of five players from each current team. Of the five players, a franchise can retain a maximum of three players for retention up to the auction, and a maximum of three players for a game card during the auction. Other restrictions on player retention are: You can keep a maximum of three Indian players with a cap, and you can only retain two players overseas and two non-Indian players. The salary cap for each team for the 2018 season has increased from 66 to 80 crores (about $ 12.4 million). A franchise can only spend 33 cents of franchise before the IPL 2018 auction, leaving at least 47 cents in the auction.
IPL teams were invited to send their retention list for January. For the first time in IPL history, the player retention event was broadcast live on Star Sports. The IPL auction will take place on 27 and 28 January in Bangalore and coincide with the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Another important decision of the IPL Council was to change the starting times of the games. Starting this season, games will begin at 5:30 pm and night games will begin at 7 pm Until last season, these games started at 16:00. STI or at 20:00 IST. This means that the second innings of the first match and the first innings of the second match overlap on the days of the double-header.

The following are the rules for the “election se selection” contest (the “Contest”) hosted by Star India Private Limited (“STAR”) for promotion of the VIVO Indian Premier League, 2018 (the “Tournament”) on the following URL http://vivoiplelection.hotstar.com(“Platform”). Any personal information gathered pursuant to this Contest shall be subject to the privacy policy available at http://www.hotstar.com/privacy-policy (“Privacy Policy“) which is incorporated herein by reference. This Contest shall be subject to the terms and conditions, comprising of the Principal Rules and the General Rules (the “Terms and Conditions”) as stated hereunder. By participating in the Contest, it is construed that the participant (“Participant”) has/have read and understood these Principle Rules including the General Rules stated below and has/have agreed to abide by the same:

1. 2. The Contest is a game of knowledge and skill whereby the Participants would have to choose their favourite Tournament team (“Favourite Team”). The Participants would then be asked to choose/vote for players under 2 (two) categories: (i) star player; and (ii) uncapped player, which in their opinion would or should be picked by their Favourite Team (“Contest Question”) in the player auction to take place on January 27 and January 28, 2018 (“VIVO IPL Auction”). If the said two players are also picked and bought by the Participant’s Favourite Team in the VIVO IPL Auction, then the said Participant is to be classified in a pool of potential winners (“Pool”).
3. Any person who wishes to participate in the Contest (“Participant”) shall fulfill all of the following requirements in order to qualify for participation:
(a) All Participants must register themselves on the Platform.
(b) All the Participants must be residing in India during the Contest Period.
(c) Each Participant is required to visit the Platform and answer the Contest Question.
(d) The Participant should submit their entry containing their answers to the Contest Question on the Platform during the Contest Period (“Entry”).
(e) Any Entry which does not contain all of the elements mentioned in this paragraph shall not be considered a valid Entry and shall be deemed null and void without requirement of any intimation by STAR and many more terms & conditions
